Administrative Contact The MOST important contact.  The Administrative Contact is considered the owner of the domain and has the authorization to make changes to the domain name registration contents.

For your protection, we recommend that the actual domain name owner be listed as the Administrative Contact listing a valid email address that you plan to continue using.
     

Billing Contact This is a separate point of contact, if necessary, and  will be responsible for payment issues.  Billing Contacts do NOT have any authority to make any changes to your domain name.
   
Domain Name A domain name is your unique identity on the internet that references your website.  It is an easy way for humans to recall website addresses.  Whereas, computers don't understand words and letters in domain names and can deal better with numbers, the computer translates the domain  name into strings of numbers called an ip address.

name server At least 2 name servers are listed at the bottom of your domain name registration and specifies the location of where your website is hosted via name server Primary & Secondary Server Hostname and Primary & Secondary Server IP Address.  Name servers permits people to get to your website address by recalling your domain name and not by an ip address.  The DNS provides an association between a domain name and its IP Address.
   
parking Parking means that you are registering a domain name before you have an actual website or have immediate plans for using that domain name.

registrant The Registrant is the person or entity who registers a domain name.  This person or entity holds the right to use that specific domain name for a specified period of time, provided certain conditions are met and registration fees are paid in full.
   
registrar A Registrar is an organization that registers domain names over certain TLDS like .com, .net, .org on behalf of a Registrant.  

Some of the larger and popular registrars include: Network Solutions and Register.com, but there are hundred of other domain name registrars in the internet industry.

1-2-3-domain-names.com is an OpenSRS Registration Service Provider and OpenSRS is a ICANN-Accredited Registrar that is certified to register domain names.
    

registry The Registry is an authoritative backend database or master list of domain names that registrar's have shared access to. Each registrar writes new names to a central registry database, from which the authoritative root (essentially, a table of all domain names on the Internet) is built. 

The Registry is maintained by the Registry Administrator who at this time is Network Solutions under a government contract with the US Department of Commerce 
   

Technical Contact By default, the technical contact that will be listed will be us because we are responsible for your domain name registration issues.  
    
whois WhoIs is a tool that provides information about the registrant of a particular domain name. 

Internic updates the central WhoIs database twice every 24 hours.
